About Call to Serve
Founded in 1994 and officially registered in 2000, Call to Serve is a non-profit organization dedicated to positive community transformation in St. Helena Bay and Velddrif. Our mission is supported by a passionate team, addressing crucial areas such as home-based care, support groups, and preventative health initiatives.
History of Call to Serve
We (14 Housewives all volunteers) started Call-to-serve community care in 1994. All projects were managed out of their houses. We were funded with small funding from our local factories. In May 2000 we registered as an NPO with reg. No. 008/747.
Who is Call to serve Community Care
Call to serve is a non- government, non-profitable registered organization, networking with primary Health facilities, hospitals, social department, SAPS, NGO’s and other role players in the St. Helena Bay and Velddrif areas to uplift and bring positive change in our communities. The organization was started in the year 1994 with 14 volunteers (women). The organization was registered as an NGO in May 2000 with Registration Number: 008/747. The current Home-based community program started in 2005 in St. Helena Bay. Laingville Office Staff: 1 x Professional Nurse, 1 x Project Manager, 1 x Administrator, 14 x Community Workers and 2 x Councilors. Velddrif Staff: 1 x Professional Nurse, 1 x Project Manager, 14 x Community Health Workers, 2 x Councilors.

Child Care and Nutrition

Child nutrition refers to the intake of food and nutrients necessary for the healthy growth and development of children. Ensuring children receive enough food and required vitamins to meet their energy and nutrient needs based on age and activity level

Women's Health

Women's health care encompasses a broad range of medical services tailored to the unique needs of women throughout their lifespan. Family planning, pregnancy and childbirth, pap smears, sexually transmitted infections, vaccinations and mental health are some of the services rendered.

Wounds Care

The comprehensive management of wounds, prioritizing healing, infection control, and symptom management to improve patient outcomes. We clean wounds to remove debris, bacteria, and dead tissue, which can impede healing.

AYFS - Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services

A strategy focused on improving healthcare access and quality for young people aged 10-24, particularly at the primary health care level. We're ensuring services are easy for young people to access, including convenient hours and locations.

Palliative Care

Specialized medical care focused on improving the quality of life for individuals and their families facing serious illnesses, particularly those with little to no prospect of cure. Palliative care addresses not just physical symptoms but also psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Chronic and Diabetes Care

Chronic care focuses on managing long-term health conditions, while diabetes care specifically addresses the needs of individuals with diabetes, often leveraging chronic care principles. We do Chronic Care Measurements to empower patients to actively participate in their own care, manage their conditions effectively, and prevent complications.

Dean Lackay

Chair Person

This member effectively leads and manages the board of directors, focusing on strategic oversight and governance. The Chair person originally from Alicedale Eastern Cape with a very carring heart assist in most outreaches and daily functions at the Organization.

Irene Barends

Project Manager - Laingville Office

The member is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a project, from initiation to completion, ensuring it aligns with the organization's mission and goals. Mrs Irene Barends is also the founder of this Organization and therefor the reason for her passion and enthusiasm.

Brenda Abrahams

Co-ordinator Laingville

The Professional Nurse responsibilities often include providing direct patient care, managing medications, educating patients and their families, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Includes assessing patients, performing physical exams, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and providing wound care.

Mildred Cloete

Administrative Clerk

Handles general office tasks, providing support to ensure smooth daily operations. She is also processing mail, emails, and other forms of communication. Mrs Cloete also handles Laingville and Velddrif offices bookkeeping and basic accounting tasks. She also assist the community in creating and typing of CV (Curriculum Vitae) for job seeking members.

Diane Laubscher

Project Manager - Velddrif

The member is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a project, from initiation to completion, ensuring it aligns with the organization's mission and goals. She also ensure that the project deliverables meet the required quality standards.

Zimone Groenewald
